This is my Christmas cake... The icing didn't go as well as previous years, it was cracked when it came out of the box!!
I tatted the band a few years ago, and use it every year, with a different theme for the top. This year my daughter Mandy made Christmas trees from icing and mazipan cut into stars, with 2 snowmen. The tatting is from Rosemarie Peel's Yuletide Tatting.

Oh, how delightful! I also happen to have Rosemarie Peel's Yuletide tatting! It's out of print now, you know! I don't think I've tatted anything from it, though!
ReplyDeleteThanks, that book is one of my standbys for Christmas tatting.
ReplyDeleteThat is just beautiful! - perhaps if I begin now, I can tat one for next year - I usually buy lengths of cake wrapping and throw them away every year.
ReplyDeleteI always bake the cake for Christmas - it must weigh over 5 kg, old family recipe - and my youngest daughter is responsible for icing and decorating it. She is much better at that than I am!
Your cake band is gorgeous. I don't have that book so have not seen it before.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the cake. It is too Pretty to eat!!
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks beautiful with that cake band. Just lovely! I agree with Carol, it's too pretty to eat.
ReplyDeleteWow! A 'cake band' is a new concept to me. What kind of icing is used, as it doesn't seem to disturb the tatting (and vice-versa). (Is there something between the tatting and the icing?) Very interesting tradition, and a new way (to me) to display tatting! Saves getting out the piping bag, and is reusable! Very colorful and a neat idea!!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteKathy, It's roll out icing, which wasn't good quality this year. It had a few cracks. The tatting just goes round the outside and is pinned into place. You could use it without the ribbon.
